Coloured diamonds from Brazil (Bahia?)

Coloured diamonds from Brazil

A Brazilian diamond parcel (from Bahia?) – unknown author.

A friend that knows I like diamonds (and other minerals and rocks) sent me a picture of a Brazilian parcel (alas, they always gift me pictures, never the stones themselves). It is a really nice looking parcel of coloured diamonds (mind you, not so long ago many of these stones would be dismissed as industrials).

I have studied diamond populations and used them as a tool in diamond exploration. I was told by another knowledgeable friend that this parcel is likely from the Chapada Diamantina (Bahia, Brazil). Would you agree?

By the way, don’t mind what I said above: if you have interesting photos of diamond (and other minerals and rocks), will be more that happy to receive and post them at this blog’s diamond photo galleries.

  1. They all appear to be distorted octahedrons, however, I still love them in their natural state. Some of the greenish ones appear to have “trout skin” on the faces, but, these can be removed with acid. Some West Australian diamonds were discovered to have the same “skin”.
